<메타모르포시스>
헤럴드 아트데이(Herald Artday)에서, 세 번째 개인전을 갖게 되었습니다. 이번 전시는, 괴테의 [색채론]을 읽고, 이를 한번쯤 실험해 보고 싶다는 단순한 충동에서 시작되었습니다. 특히 괴테의 색채 인식 - 모든 생명은 어둠에서 태어남, 빛과 어둠의 상호작용, 그리고 수축과 팽창, 분리와 결합, 들숨과 날숨 - 을 이미지로 풀어내고자 했습니다. 하지만 실험하는 과정에, 색은 색면으로 변형이 되고, 여기에 기하학적 요소인 그리드가 개입되어, 초기의 기하학적 스타일로 회귀되고 있는 저 자신의 모습에 놀랐습니다. 그러니까 괴테의 색채 인식에 몬드리안적 질서를 부여하고 있었던 것입니다. 앞으로는 색채만으로 어떻게 감동을 줄 수 있을까를 고민하고 있습니다.
I am holding my third solo exhibition at Herald Artday. This exhibition began with a simple impulse after reading Theory of Colours by Goethe - the desire to experiment with his ideas at least once. In particular, I wanted to translate Goethe’s perception of color into images : the notion that all life is born from darkness; the interaction of light and darkness; and the living processes of contraction and expansion, separation and union, inhalation and exhalation. However, in the course of experimentation, the colors gradually transformed into colorfields, and a geometric element – grid - began to intervene. To my surprise, I found myself returning to my earlier geometric style. In other words, I was unconsciously imposing a Mondrian-like order upon Goethe’s perception of color. Going forward, I continue to reflect on a fundamental question: how color only can move and deeply affect human emotion.
